RECENT ARTWORK

Melgo’s most recent pieces have been inspired by events that have shaken the U.S. in the past year. Through his work, Melgo intends to uncover the harsh truth behind the politics of contemporary America. His mission is to spark the viewer’s curiosity to reflect and learn more about these topics, especially from the perspective of those most affected. Knowledge that Melgo hopes will inspire viewers to seek change. Change that will allow us to progress as a nation, in other words – progress through knowledge.

Previously, his focus was on illustrating the concept of creation through abstract ambiguity. These paintings aim to ignite an appreciation for life as a sacred source, from a micro to a macro perspective.

Indigenous Continent - 2021, Mixed media, 30” x 48”

Seeking to empower those fighting for justice, this piece reflects the truth of an Indigenous continent that is trying to evolve from colonialism. It encourages the viewer to see that this nation continues to desecrate Indigenous land and keeps taking it from those that protect it.

The painting aims to encourage education about the environmental impact of destroying biodiverse ecosystems for man-made developments. Whether it is a wall or a pipeline, the motives of this type of careless projects disregard life for the sake of power and financial growth.

Self-creation of Flora and Fauna - 2019,

Mixed media, 36” x 48”

An abstract painting describing the sacred process of creation.

This piece illustrates how bones, lungs, flesh, and all organic matter are a miracle from our mother (Tonantzin, Pachamama, mother nature).

Obliterate the Beast - 2020,

Mixed media, 36” x 48

This piece reflects on a nation that through genocide, slavery, oppression, and war, has acquired power. A nation that claims to stand for indivisibility, liberty, and justice for all, but continues to promote white supremacy.

Fabricated during the peak of the BLM movement, this piece intends to make the viewer ponder about the past and the present of this nation through three main topics: the history and purpose of police brutality and its evolution through time to maintain the status quo; the constant violation of rights and treaties towards indigenous people (the true owners of the land); and how America has remained in power through profiting from war.

Obliterate the Beast” is a synonym for dismantling a system based on lies that only serve a few. If this nation claims to stand for freedom and justice for all, then it shall stand for freedom and justice to all. One needs to acknowledge the harsh history of this nation in order to progress.
